Welcome
Welcome to the Stepney Episcopal area website, home of the Church of England in the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets.
With 48% of our growing population under 30 years old, Stepney is young, diverse, and creative. Its diversity is wide and stretches across culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic capacity.
Stepney Area
We are a church of faithful and prayerful people, for whom serving others is key. We relate generously across social, cultural, and ecclesiological differences. We have seen instances of considerable growth in some church congregations and have supported innovative new projects. We have the God-given gifts of people’s commitment, skills, and time. We have buildings which stand as witness to the love of God for all in our communities.
There are 26 primary and 3 secondary Church of England schools in Stepney. There are also 3 universities, 8 hospitals, and 2 prisons in the area, in each of these key places of life our church is present.
