Churches across the Episcopal Area of Stepney in the Diocese of London, covering the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets, have come together to honour and remember Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with services of remembrance.
Last Sunday, the Rt Revd Joanne Grenfell, Bishop of Stepney, joined the congregation of St Mary’s Islington and its wider community for a service of thanksgiving. Last night, faith and civic leaders from the Borough of Tower Hamlets joined at All Saints Poplar, having processed from Chrisp St Market to All Saints in a show of interfaith solidarity and respect. On Sunday, faith and civic leaders from the Borough of Hackey will join at St John at Hackney (SAINT).
The Rt Revd Joanne Grenfell, Bishop of Stepney, said:
“We give thanks to God for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her faith, and her loyal commitment to our country. I’m thankful to churches across the Stepney Area for opening their doors to the people of north and east London to allow them space to mourn and remember Her Late Majesty.”
