Eco Church – a one hour introduction with Alison Tsang
September 23, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free‘Eco Church’ is the tool we’d love all churches to sign up to. It is a free online Award based tool that will equip your church to care for God’s creation.
Seven of our churches have already signed up to it. Please book here via Eventbrite.
This 1 hour webinar, where we’re delighted to be joined by Helen Stephens, from A Rocha, is aimed at churches who have heard about Eco Church, are thinking about getting involved and/or just want to know more.
EcoChurch is an award programme managed by the Christian Environmental charity A Rocha UK. It’s a brilliant way for churches to really take action, and opportunities for the whole church community to get involved and journey together to live in more sustainable ways for people and planet.
Churches are challenged to commit themselves to actions which are positive for God’s creation under five headings: Worship and Teaching; Buildings; Land; Lifestyle; and Community and Global. Registration is online and free (but donations to A Rocha are welcome for churches who are able to consider this.)
As a Diocese we want to encourage as many churches as possible to become Eco Churches, as part of our ongoing commitment of Caring for God’s Creation, and part of our commitment to reach Carbon Zero by 2030.
Those responsible for listed buildings will be glad to know that there are exemptions from certain expectations that would be impossible to implement in an ancient and protected building! The ethos is all about doing what we can and making a commitment to positive change, but not stressing about the impossible.
The focus of this ‘Getting Started’ seminar will be introducing EcoChurch to those who are new to it, or perhaps who have registered but aren’t sure what to do next. The seminar is designed for churches in the Stepney Area of the Diocese of London but all are welcome from across the Diocese and beyond!
We’re delighted and honoured that Helen Stephens from A Rocha will be leading this event so she will able to answer any questions you may have and signpost you to the resources you need.
As well as an overview of the themes and signposting of useful resources, the seminar will enable you to understand how the award scheme works and to get started with the registration process. There will be an opportunity for questions as well as discussion with others who are working on Eco Church across the Diocese.
