Choral Evensong at All Saints Poplar
October 9, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
You are warmly invited to attend a special Choral Evensong at All Saints’ Poplar on October 9th, 2022. The service begins at 5pm and is followed by a free drinks reception, generously sponsored by the Prayer Book Society.
The music will include Bairstow’s I sat down under his shadow, Balfour Gardiner’s Evening Hymn and Sumsion’s Service in G. The homily is given by The Rev’d Matt Wall, Vicar of St. Nicholas Poplar. The music has been especially chosen to be a great introduction for those who are new to Evensong: we would love to welcome people who have never enjoyed this beautiful service before.
The music is led by the East London Evensong Choir, founded six years ago with the simple aim of promoting Evensong and the Book of Common Prayer in London’s East End. It is made up of skilled volunteer singers from across east London, who share a love of of choral liturgy.
Initially visiting churches across the East End, the choir now leads worship monthly at All Saints’ Poplar. The choir also enjoys relationships with other churches, including St. Mary’s Cable Street, where we sing an annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, and St. Anne’s Hoxton, where plans are afoot to launch a second monthly service.
This event aims to celebrate the partnership between All Saints’ and ELEC, and to share this work still further. Further details of the choir’s work and mission, alongside service dates until December, can be found at www.eastlondonevensongchoir.com.
